WebCervical cytology screening involves the microscopic examination of cell samples that have been taken primarily from the ecto- and endocervix, smeared on glass slides and stained by the Papanicolaou (Pap) method. The entire procedure is known as Pap smear. WebIn high resource settings, cytology (pap smear) is the most widely used screening test. Among the various screening tests, which are feasible in low resource settings, HPV testing and visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA) have been demonstrated to be effective in decreasing cervical cancer mortality.
